This painting, entitled, “Befriending the Buree Nazar,” is an Abstract Acrylic on 16″x 20″ Stretched canvas, glossed. “Buree Nazar” is the Urdu word for “Evil Eyes.” The Nazar is a concept connected with cultural and religious underpinnings along with superstitions. Holding the blue eye amulet is an ancient tradition (Middle East, Persia, and South Asian origins) to thwart off negative forces. This painting represents a “diplomacy” with those internal and external forces that get in the way of accomplishing our biggest dreams, and remaining hopeful. This was completed in Fall 2022.
